What Size Water Heater Do I Need for My Plano Home?

Get it wrong and you either run out mid-shower or pay every month to keep water hot that nobody uses. Here is how to size a water heater for a Plano home, in plain terms.

Gallons are only half the story

Most people size a water heater by gallon capacity alone — 40, 50, 75. Capacity matters, but the number that actually predicts performance on a busy morning is the first-hour rating (FHR). FHR is how much hot water the unit can deliver in the first hour starting from a full, hot tank. It combines stored volume with the burner or element's recovery rate, which is why a well-built 40-gallon gas heater can outperform a slow 50-gallon electric one during a back-to-back shower rush.
